Miriam Sanders was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC. The same year, her father founded Sanders Museum Services, a family run business specializing in artifact mounting and exhibit installation. From an early age, Miriam was able to regularly visit the Smithsonian Institution's various museums and exhibits, exposing her to archaeological and natural artifacts as well as world class fine art.
Raised in Shepherdstown, WV, she was surrounded by craftspersons, musicians, and artists. Her artistic talent was evident at an early age and she began pursuing fine arts as a child. Miriam's first experience with fine art immersion was in elementary school when she was chosen to participate in a workshop administered by Dr. Doug Kinnett's art education students at Shepherd College. Learning Sumi brushwork, line drawing, graph transferring, and studying and copying masterworks from Van Gogh, this early experience had a profound impact on Miriam's development as a young artist. When she was in high school, she was selected to participate in a three week intensive program at West Virginia Governor's School for the Arts.
Miriam has taken courses at Rhode Island School of Design and completed the foundations year for Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She received her Bachelor of Arts at Shepherd University in the winter of 2008 and intends to begin pursuing her MFA in the fall.
